Getting Involved
Here we outline by mission area all of the active ministries of St.
Peters. While participation in worship is important, most people find that
their friendships at church develop when they become involved in one or
more ministries. Take time to browse through this page and contemplate
where you might get involved. If any of the ministries look intriguing
feel free to contact the church office for more information or to get
involved. Worship Ministries Acolytes Acolytes provide assistance to the clergy in worship by carrying the processional cross and torches, as well as assisting in the preparation of the Altar for Holy Communion. Lectors Lectors read the lessons at Sunday services as well as leading the congregation in the Prayers of the People. They, through their ministry, help to bring alive the Word of God and articulate the intercessions of the community gathered. Ushers Ushers are our first line of hospitality to both visitors and members alike. Ushers hand out bulletins, take an accurate count of attendance, help seat persons needing assistance, collect the offering, and assist in people coming forward for Holy Communion. Chalice Bearers Chalice Bearers assist the clergy in the distribution of Holy Communion. Altar Guild The altar guild provides all the "behind the scenes" support for worship services. Everything from laundering and pressing linens to polishing silver and filling candles with fuel fall under the scope of the Altar Guild. Vestry The Vestry is an elected body comprised of members from the body of the congregation. It meets monthly and as needed to conduct the business of the Church as outlined in the St. Peters Bylaws. The Vestry has the authority to initiate and execute actions to promote the goals and objectives of the church. Garden and Yard Ministry This ministry maintains yard and gardens and plants new plants as necessary. On an ongoing basis, this ministry involves watering, planting, weeding and pruning. Additionally, at least once per year, there is a church clean up day |
