Susan's Musings

October 23rd 2007 This weekend our diocese meets in convention. I believe, that originally, conventions were trying to imitate tribal gatherings at the beginning of Autumn. AT these Native American gatherings there was trading, drumming, consulting on important regional matters, the making of matches to keep the gene pool diverse, and generally catching up on the news of the past year. We try to do some of this at our conventions. But because of our culture and our ways of doing business we meet in big meeting rooms and use Robert's Rules of Order. I'm wondering how different our meetings would be if we gathered at Fragile Rock and put our head to the earth to hear the heartbeat of our center. How different would it be if the incense of pine and sage filled our liturgy? What if the starlight
, the constellations, the full moon served as our background for evening
prayer or evening Eucharist. What would God say to us in such an awesome
setting. Would we have the eyes to see and the ears to hear?
